J.R. Strode

J.R. Strode, 93, of Stanley passed away on March 2, 2012 at home surrounded by his loving family. J.R. was born in Fulton County, Il on January 1, 1919 to the late Curtis Guy Strode and Lela Lacey Strode. Mr. Strode was a member of the Settle Memorial United Methodist Church, former member of the Stanley Methodist Church, he attended Bradley University for two years and graduated from the University of Illinois, magna cum laude, in 1941 with a bachelors degree in Agriculture. He was a member of the Stanley Masonic Lodge, he was a Shriner and a member of the Rizaph Temple in Madisonville, Royal Order of Jesters of Western, KY, Elks Lodge # 526 in Henderson, Fraternal Order of Eagles in Evansville, IN, Coterie Club of Evansville, IN, Owensboro Dance Club, Alpha Zeta Alumni Association of IL., Agriculture Honorary Society, and he served 21 years and as chairman on the Daviess County Board of Education, he was a WWII veteran serving his country in the US Army. He was also preceded in death by his son, William Curtis Strode, infant brother, Robert Strode, step-mother, Golda Strode and a grandson-in-law, Clay Campbell.


J.R. is survived by his wife of 66 years, Betty Lee Foster Strode, one daughter, Sarah Lee Elliott of Stanley, one son, Richard Allen Strode of Stanley, nine grandchildren and nine great grandchild.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday in the chapel of Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory. Visitation will be from 3 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Monday and after 8:30 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery.
