Joyce Arlene Payne, 91, of Owensboro, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family, on Wednesday, November 15, 2023 at home while under the care of Hospice of Western Kentucky. She was born May 14, 1932 in Daviess County to the late Joseph Guy Hardy, Sr. and Sarah Elizabeth Jackson Hardy. Joyce was a member of Blessed Mother Catholic Church. She was a devout Catholic and led by example, faithfully beginning each day praying the rosary. She was employed for 20 years at the Carmel Home. Joyce was a lifelong volunteer who dedicated hours of service to multiple organizations, but most recently dedicated her time to the Quilt Ministry at Bellevue Baptist Church and Owensboro Health Regional Hospital where she volunteered for 26 years. Joyce enjoyed crocheting, quilting, cooking, volunteering, spending time with family, baking for friends and family, and never said no to a traveling opportunity.
Joyce was also preceded in death by her husband, Joseph S. Payne, Sr., a daughter, Pamela Ann Payne, and siblings, Joseph Guy Hardy, Jr., Ava Tony Westerfield Hargis, Georgetta Simpson, and Rose Head.
Left to cherish her memory are: Karen (Ronnie) Goetz of Philpot, Joey Payne of Maceo, Tammy (Joseph) Tucker of Utica, Jeff (Teresa) Payne of Indianapolis, and Michelle (Bo) Lankster of Lexington; 16 grandchildren, Chad Goetz, Melissa Goetz, Laura Beth Mitchell, J. D. Johnson, Lexy Payne, Landon Payne, Adam Payne, Nicholas Tucker, Katelyn Warren, Jared Tucker, Matthew Payne, Sarah Payne, Michaela Payne, Arly Williams, Aaron Lankster, and Bailey Jo Lankster; 13 great grandchildren; two sisters, Mabel “Bebe” Lindsey of Owensboro and Gayle Hardy of New Albany, Indiana; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The funeral mass will be 11 AM Monday, November 20, at Blessed Mother Catholic Church with Father Mike Clark officiating. Burial to follow at Resurrection Cemetery. Visitation will be 2 PM until 6 PM Sunday with prayers at 5 PM at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory and from 10 AM until time of mass at Blessed Mother Catholic Church.
