Joyce Howard Murphy

Joyce Howard Murphy, 74, of Owensboro, passed away Saturday, September 27, 2026, at her home. She was born January 27, 1952, in Daviess County, to the late John Coy and Mary Ellen Wedding Howard. She graduated from Trinity High School in Whitesville in 1970 and went on to obtain a degree from Owensboro Business College.

Joyce enjoyed her regular lunch dates with her sisters. She also played BINGO, computer games, and watched old Western movies. Joyce listened to classic Country music and even spent many days line dancing. She was a kindhearted person that was naturally hilarious according to her friends. Joyce retired from the Daviess County Public School system as a bus monitor.

Along with her parents, she was also preceded in death by her sister, Mary Ellen Howard; and brothers, Curtis Howard and Bruce Howard.

Joyce is survived by her son Michael Murphy (Andrea); daughter, Stephanie Fulkerson (Clay); grandchildren, Elyana Calland, Phoenix Murphy, Savana Calland, and Andersen Calland; siblings, Linda Kitchens, Becky Cheatham, and Kathy Adkins.

The funeral service for Joyce will be held at 12:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 30, 2026 at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory with Brian Howard officiating. Visitation will be held on the same day from 9:00 a.m. until 11:30 a.m.at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory. Committal service will take place at Owensboro Memorial Gardens Christ Chapel following the funeral service.

Joyce always said if she won the Lottery, she would donate half to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital. In lieu of winning the lottery, expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105
