Jospeh Cooper

Joseph "Papa Joe" Cooper, 99, of Owensboro died Wednesday, December 12, 2007 at The Carmel Home. Born in Daviess County, a son of the late George and Mary Hoheimer Cooper, Mr. Cooper served for 37 years as superintendent of Mater Dolorosa Cemetery and was the founding superintendent of Resurrection Cemetery. He was a long time member of St. Stephen Cathedral and was a current member of Immaculate Catholic Church. His wife, Mary Myrtle Cooper, died in 1996.

Survivors include his sons, George Cooper, Steve (Etta) Cooper, and Tony (Linda) Cooper, all of Owensboro; his daughters, Sister Maggie Cooper, SCN of Belize, Ann (Jim) Bittel of Lewisport, and Cathy Brooks (Richard) of Owensboro; 14 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, and 6 great-great-grandchildren.

Services, officiated by The Rev. Tony Jones, are 2:00 p.m. Friday at Immaculate Catholic Church. Visitation will be at Glenn Funeral Home from 3:00 until 8:00 p.m. Thursday and from 10:00 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. Friday. Burial will be in Mater Dolorosa Cemetery. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to the Carmel Home Building Fund.
