Joseph Edward "Joe" Volk, Jr.

Joseph Edward "Joe" Volk, Jr, 89, of Owensboro passed away Tuesday, March 29 at his home. He was born in Daviess County to the late Joseph Edward and Anna Lorraine Volk.

Mr. Volk was a Korean War Veteran of the U.S. Navy. He served four years and was a Second Class Engineman.

Joe retired from the Addison Corporation in 1991 after more than twenty years of service. He previously worked for Owensboro Linoleum and Tile for seventeen years. Mr. Volk was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church for more than fifty years where his activities included several committees and committee chair positions, Upper Room Sunday School Class and hosting a prayer group that met weekly in his shop. He also enjoyed gardening, woodworking, fishing and spending time with family, especially his grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and three sisters, Judy Garvin, Elizabeth Hagan and Jean Rhinerson.

Mr. Volk is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Wanda Brown Volk; daughter, Janet Volk Neely and her husband, Bob; sons, Donald J. Volk and his wife, Terri and Michael L. Volk and his wife, Anjanette, all of Owensboro; seven grandchildren, Laura Boarman, Ryan Neely, Chris, Jeremy and Nick Volk, Rebecca and Anna Catherine Volk; seven great-grandchildren (and one expected in July); one great-great grandchild; four sisters, Anna Louise Castlen, Shirley Volk, and Margaret Volk, all of Owensboro and Agnes Myers of Pennsylvania; brothers, James Robert Volk and wife, Peggy of Owensboro and Thomas Richard Volk and wife, Mary Alice of Virginia; and many nieces and nephews.

The service will be at Noon Saturday, April 2 at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory, officiated by Rev. Karla Fullwood with burial at Rosehill Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 3 until 7 PM and after 11 AM on Saturday at the funeral home.
