Joseph A. “Buddy” Roby, Jr., 91, of Owensboro, passed away on Tuesday, August 4, 2026 at his home. He was born March 27, 1935 in Daviess County to the late Joseph A. “Ott” and Mary Josephine Barr Roby, Sr. Buddy was a member of St. Pius Tenth Catholic Church and was retired from Green River Steel after more than 30 years of service. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and archery in which he competed in 3-D shoots. He loved building model airplanes and race cars and was very knowledgeable about many different type of aircraft. Buddy was an avid U.K. basketball fan and other sports in general. Everyone loved Buddy and he loved spending time with his family especially his grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Anne Williams Roby in May of 1993 and two sisters, Laura Jean Hayden and Mary Ann Lindsey.
Surviving are his wife of 28 years, Linda Probus Roby; children, Lisa Edge (Kevin) of Whitesville, Jim Roby (Mary) of Evansville, Randy Roby (Robin) of Owensboro, Andy Roby of Owensboro, Mike Roby (Gwen) of Owensboro, Stephanie Roby of Owensboro, Angela Abel of Owensboro, Pam Stengall (Shawn) of Helena, Alabama, Robin Crawley (Gene) of Rockport, Indiana, Dayna Wilkinson of Owensboro, and Randy Alvey (Michele) of Rockport; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren; a brother, Russell Roby of Lewisport, and two sisters, Karen Wells and Mary Thompson, both of Owensboro; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A Funeral Mass will be 1:30 PM Friday, August 7, at St. Pius Tenth Catholic Church. Burial will follow in Resurrection Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10 AM until 1 PM Friday at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory.
