b. December 21, 1925

Joseph "Johnny" Payne Sr., 81, died Saturday, December 15, 2007 at the Carmel Home. Mr. Payne was a member of Blessed Mother Catholic Church, and volunteered at the Carmel Home, and in South America for the Carmel Home, as well as Blessed Mother Church. He was the recipient of the Sophia Award at Blessed Mother. He retired as a pipe fitter for Green River Steel after 37 years, and was a Marine veteran of WWII. He was well
known for raising tomatoes for the Carmel Home.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Pamela Ann Payne in 1958.

Surviving are his wife of 57 years, Joyce Payne, sons; Joey (Barbi) Payne Jr. of Maceo, and Jeff (Teresa) Payne of Indianapolis, IN>, daughters; Karen (Ronnie) Goetz of Philpot, Tammy (Joey) Tucker of Utica, and Michelle (Bo) Lankster of Lexington, KY., two sisters, Margie (Virgil)Brant of Philpot and Helen Rose Kanter of Indianapolis, IN., and a brother; Martin A. (Jane) Payne of Louisville, KY. ; 18 grandchildren; one great-grandson; and one great-great-granddaughter.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, December 18, 2007 at Blessed Mother Catholic Church with Fr. Freddie Byrd officiating. Burial will follow in Resurrection Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday from 3 to 8 p.m. with prayers at 6:30 p.m. and also after 9 a.m. Tuesday at Glenn Funeral Home. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to the Carmel Home Building Fund or to Owensboro Catholic Schools.
