Joseph Q. Nelson, 80, of Owensboro, passed away on Saturday, May 29, 2010 with his family around him at Owensboro Medical Health System. He was born on November 28, 1929 in Hutchinson, KS to the late Jack and Gladys Parker Nelson. He was a U. S. Army veteran and had worked at Fields Packing Co., the Barmet Co., and Yager Materials. He enjoyed spending time with his family especially his grandchildren, raising a vegetable garden, and working on his fish ponds. He was also preceded in death by a son, Donald Nelson on March 1, 1993 and a great grandson, Joey Nelson on July 23, 1995.
Surviving are his wife and companion of 62 years, Geneva Nelson, two sons, Larry Nelson and Mike Nelson, both of Owensboro, two daughters, Donna Clark and Brenda Watson, both of Owensboro, 11 grandchildren including Stephanie Tatum of Owensboro, one step grandson, 28 great grandchildren, two step great grandchildren, a brother, Robert Nelson of Moseleyville, a sister, Donna Weaver of Evansville, IN, and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be 12 Noon Thursday, June 3, at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory. Burial will follow in Rosehill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2:00-8:00 P.M. Wednesday and after 9:00 A.M. Thursday at the funeral home.
