Joseph B. Millay, 87, of 808 Ford Ave., Owensboro, died Monday, November 26, 2001 at the Owensboro Mercy Health System. The Daviess County native was a member of Immaculate Catholic Church, a graduate of Reitz Memorial High School in Evansville, and retired from Brunswick Corporation. An avid athlete, he achieved perfection in three sports: bowled seven 300 games, had two golf holes-in-one, and pitched two no-hitters. He is a member of the Owensboro Bowling Association Hall of Fame; played baseball with Cardinals farm team; organized the KY Bowling Proprietors Association and helped set up the Louisville Bowling Council. A Navy Chief Petty Officer in World War II, he is a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and is a KY Colonel. He was preceded in death by a son, William Thomas Millay, in 1949.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Janice B. Cooke Millay; two sons, Berkeley Millay of Atlanta, Ga. and William Millay of Pensacola, FL.; a daughter, Patricia Hurd of White Salmon, WA; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a brother, Edward Millay of Evansville; and a sister, Dorothy Weigele of Evansville.
Funeral services are 11 A.M. Saturday, December 1, 2001 at Immaculate Catholic Church with burial in Elmwood Cemetery. Friends may call at the Glenn Funeral Home from 2-8 P.M. on Friday, November 30, 2001 and after 9 A.M. on Saturday, December 1. Prayers will be said at the funeral home on Friday at 6:30 P.M.
Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to the Hospice Association, St. Vincent De Paul of Immaculate Catholic Church or the HELP Office.
