Joseph W. Merimee

Joseph W. "Joe Bill" Merimee, 80, of Owensboro, died peacefully at his home March 11, 2015 surrounded by loved ones. He was born October 4, 1934 to the late Leo and Mary Rosalia Mackin Merimee. Joe Bill was a member of St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church. He was also a member of the St. Mary Magdalene Men's Club and Knights of Columbus Council 6101. Joe Bill was known for his love and willingness to put others before him and sometimes his inappropriate sense of humor. He was an avid UK fan, a Kentucky Colonel, and loved to travel with his family and friends.

Joe Bill worked with paint and glass for years, Green River Steel, National Aluminum, The Owensboro Housing Authority, and enjoyed his retirement by providing maintenance at St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church.

Joe Bill was preceded in death by his son, Mark Joseph Merimee in 1995; brother, Leo Donald Merimee 2007; and great-granddaughter, Brianna K. Davis in 2009.

Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Marjorie Kamuf Merimee; children, Debra Merimee of Reed, KY, Michael Merimee (Sandy), Pam Norris (Val) both of Owensboro, and Bethany Nealen (Tim) of Lewisport; brother, Charles "Tommy" Merimee (Shirley) of Owensboro; 12 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren; a special friend, Danny Jones who is like a son; Terrie Merimee who is like a daughter, and many nieces and nephews.

A funeral Mass will be 10:30am Saturday at St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church. Visitation will be Friday from 3pm until 7pm and after 8 am on Saturday at St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church. Prayers will be said 5:30 pm Friday at the church.

Memorial contributions may take the form of donations to the St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church Building Fund 7232 Hwy 56 Owensboro, Ky 42301.
