Joseph Mark Fischer

Joseph Mark Fischer, 89, of Owensboro, left this world to meet his Savior on January 1, 2024, while in the care of Hospice of Western Kentucky.  Born October 12, 1934, to the late Joseph William and Agnes Lucille Clark Fischer, Mark was a graduate of Owensboro Catholic High School in 1952 and earned his bachelor's degree in accounting from Brescia College in 1956. 

Mark had many jobs growing up such as delivering newspapers on his bicycle and with his uncle delivering groceries.  He continued work into adulthood career with Whirlpool in Evansville where he worked in the international Appliance Service Division and was over Inventory Control.  Afterwards he transitioned to Durkee Foods in Louisville, before ultimately working at C & T Refinery in Richmond, VA where he was in sales and management until his retirement.

Mark was a member of Lewis Lane Baptist Church and belonged to clubs and organizations such as Kiwanis International, Knights of Columbus and was a Kentucky Colonel.  He also served as Chairman on the Parks Board in Charlestown, IN and enjoyed singing in the choir at the various churches he attended throughout his life.  His hobbies included racquetball, fishing, and flower gardening.

Mark was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Agnes Jean Johnson Fischer; children, Steve Fischer, and Robert Kevin Fischer; brother, James Daniel Fischer; sister, Mary Jane Hall and infant sister, Joan Fischer.

Mark is survived by his wife, Bettye D. Fischer; son, Keith Fischer (Benita); daughter, Cara Whalen (Dave); daughter-in-law, Rita Fischer; grandchildren, Stefan Brafford (Debra), Kyrie Maloy (Jake), Kelsey Wahlen, Jennifer Fischer Knight (Jonathan), and Stephanie Fischer Rush (Austin); eight great-grandchildren; brother, Earl Fischer (Paula); stepsons Todd Reynolds (Debbie), Brad Reynolds (Tammy Brandle), and Bryan Reynolds (Julie Crowe); step-grandchildren, Josh Reynolds (Jennifer), Ashley Phillips (Michael), Adam Reynolds (Allison), Brooklynn Reynolds (Riley), Zackary Reynolds, Allison Reynolds and Carmen Shields, Jeff Bowersox and David Bowersox; 13 step great-grandchildren, and 3 step great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 4:00 p.m. Monday, January 8th at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory in Owensboro, KY where visitation will begin at 3:00 p.m.  Burial will take place in Charlestown, IN.
