Joseph L. Lewis

Joseph "Joe" Leopold Lewis, 80, of Owensboro passed away peacefully Thursday, November 26, 2015 at his home. He was comforted and cared for in the last days by his wife, sons, daughters, and other family members, Hospice, Father Gary Clark, and Father Pat Reynolds. Born in Owensboro on January 18, 1935, he was the eighth child of eleven born to the late Raphael and Alice Hagman Lewis. Joe was a graduate of Owensboro Catholic High School and Brescia College. He worked at Texas Gas Transmission Corp for 32 years retiring in 1994. Joe continued to work for the next 21 years at Magnolia House and Odelia's Catering. He was an active member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church which he attended for 54 years. He was an active member of several bridge groups and he achieved his Life Master Status. Joe had a passion for genealogy and that work will continue in his honor.
Joe was a very charitable person who liked to help others without being recognized. He enjoyed his family and family gatherings. He was active in his children's activities including being a Boy Scout Leader, Baseball coach, and Men's Club activities. Joe also enjoyed bowling, golfing. Fox News and UK sports.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother, James Lewis and a sister, Mary Catherine Lewis.

Surviving is his wife of 58 years Frances Hockgeiger Lewis; sons, Michael (Teresa) Lewis of Owensboro, David (Marilyn) Lewis of Utica, Patrick (Jeanie) Lewis of Owensboro, and Stephen (Tonya) Lewis of Owensboro; daughters, Mary Wink and Diane (Dennis) Fulkerson of Owensboro; grandchildren, Lauren (Jeremy) Coomes, Lyndsey Lewis, Leah Lewis, Larissa Lewis, Jason (April) Lewis, Brent (Sarah) Lewis, Kaitlyn Lewis, Aubrey (Sam) Burton, Nathan Lewis, Sara Lewis, Michael Lewis, Rebekah Lewis, Alex Wink, Casey Wink, Drew Fulkerson, Daniel Fulkerson, Katie Fulkerson, Allison Lewis, Joseph Lewis, and Alivia Lewis; 8 great-grandchildren; brothers, Michael Lewis of Denver, and John (Nancy) Lewis of Owensboro; and sisters, Teresa Morgan of Glennwood Springs, CO, Barbara Lundstrom of North Glenn, CO, Alice Mae Lewis of Denver, Frances (Donatus) Cecil of Bardstown, Jeanie (John) Gulding of Waynesboro, VA, and Ann Lewis of Denver.

Services are 10 a.m. Monday, November 30, 2015 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church with burial following in Resurrection Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2-8 p.m. on Sunday and after 8:30 a.m. on Monday at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory where the Rosary will be said at 7 p.m. on Sunday.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Hospice of Western Kentucky.
