Joseph C. Higdon, 88, of 410 West Ninth Street, Owensboro, KY. died Thursday, November 29, 2001 at Paducah, KY. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Ellen Higdon, who died July 21, 2001.
The St. Lawrence native was a funeral service associate with Glenn Funeral Home for 37 years, a member of St. Stephen Cathedral, VFW, and American Legion. A Navy veteran of WW II, survived the sinking of the USS North Hampton, served as driver for Admiral Bull Halsey, was a Kentucky Colonel.
Survivors include four sons, Charles A. Tony Higdon and John W. Higdon, both of Owensboro, M. Larry Higdon of Island and W. Frederick Higdon of Murfreesboro, TN; two daughters, Joellen Ivey and Helena Schultz of Paducah; two sisters, Olivia Cassidy of Louisville and Sister Rose Henry Higdon of Nerix; and a brother, Victor Higdon of Louisville, and 11 grandchildren.
Services are 2 p.m. Sunday at St. Stephen Cathedral. Visitation is from 2 until 8 p.m. Saturday and after noon Sunday at Glenn Funeral Home, where prayers will be said at 6:45 p.m. Saturday. Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery. Espressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to St. Stephen Cathedral.
