Joseph Louis Hagan

June 21, 1922 — April 19, 2003

Joseph Louis Hagan, 80, of 2221 Biscayne Drive died Saturday, April 19, 2003 in Owensboro. He was born in Owensboro, the son of the late John William and Garcenia Ams Hagan.

Mr. Hagan was a member of St. Stephen Cathedral. A public relations executive, he held a BA from Milligan College and did post-graduate work at the New School for Social Research in New York City. He was a veteran of the US Navy, having served in both WW II and the Korean Conflict. He served as director of public relations at Medley Distillery. Mr. Hagan was a member of the US and KY Chambers of Commerce, and a past director of the Owensboro-Daviess County Chamber of Commerce. A member of the Owensboro Lions Club, he had served as District Governor and past chairman of the board of directors of Kentucky Lions. He had previously been president of Kentucky W, BPO Elks, chairman of the Daviess County Chapter of the American Red Cross, chaplain of the Fraternal Order of Eagles and Prelate for the Owensboro Moose Lodge. He was a Kentucky Colonel and an Admiral of Kentucky Waterways.

He is survived by two sons, Joseph Louis Hagan, Jr., of Owensboro and Charles Conner Hagan, of Hampton, VA; a daughter, Lynne Marie Bendig of Hampton, VA; a foster son, Craig Patrick Vest of Owensboro, and eight grandchildren.

Services are at 1 p.m. Tuesday at St. Stephen Cathedral. Friends may call at Glenn Funeral Home from 2 until 8 p.m. Monday and from 10 a.m. until 12:25 p.m. Tuesday. Prayers will be said at 5 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Entombment will be in Resurrection Cemetery.
