Joseph Ronald Gaines, 66, passed away Wednesday, August 18, 2010 at Owensboro Medical Health System. He was born on October 22, 1943 in Henderson Co., Ky. to the late John Ralph and Rena Cummings Gaines. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Jackie Hobgood of Sebree and a brother, Steve Gaines of Washington, IN. He was a 1961 graduate of Henderson County High School. He had worked as an agent clerk for CSX Railroad for 37 years. He was a member of First Christian Church. He also sold Christmas trees every year until 2001 at Wyndall's Shopping Center. The highlight of his later years was spending time with his grandchildren who all knew him as "Poppy".

Surviving are his wife of 46 years, Lelia McClure Gaines, a son, John Gaines (Lisa) of Franklin, TN, two daughters, Nancy Bristow (John) of Honolulu, Hawaii and Amy Gaines (Charters Harrison) of Louisville, KY, five grandchildren, Ellen and Reed Gaines of Franklin, Joseph Ethan Bristow of Honolulu, and Chloe and Seldon Gaines-Hall of Louisville. Survivors also include a sister, Kathie Richardson of Thermopolis, WY, a brother, Don Gaines (Pam) of Aurora, CO, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Services will be at 12 Noon Saturday, August 21, 2010 in the chapel of Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory officiated by Rev. Jim Westmoreland and Bro. Cecil Phillips. Entombment will follow in the Owensboro Memorial Gardens Mausoleum. Visitation will be from 2:00-8:00 P.M. Friday and after 10:00 A.M. Saturday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Owensboro-Daviess Co. Habitat for Humanity Scholarship Fund, P. O. Box 2042, Owensboro, Ky. 42302.
