Joseph Thomas Elliott, 76 of Philpot passed away Saturday, May 14, 2016 at Owensboro Health Regional Hospital. He was born October 18, 1939 in Mount Zion, KY to the late Chester and Ann Lanham Elliott. Mr. Elliott loved his family, his church, and farming. He was known as being reliable, a leader with a plan, a doer and hard worker who was very community oriented and served on the SE Daviess County Water Board for over 30 years. Mr. Elliott was a Kentucky Colonel, a member of the Rural Life Committee where he received the Lifetime Achievement Award. Joseph and his wife, Mary Sue also received the Sophia Award from the Owensboro Catholic diocese. He especially loved bush hogging which he was able to do the day before he died. After retirement, Mr. Elliott loved being with his grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Mary Sue; his children, Rob Elliott of Philpot, Dana Lindsey and husband Pat of Hancock County, and Scott Elliott and wife Felicia also of Philpot; seven grandchildren, Jamie Simpson and husband Phillip, Jared, Simon, and Erica Lindsey, Torrey Grooms and wife Allyson, Ryan Grooms, Michael Elliott; great grandchildren, Lilly Simpson and Abigail Grooms; his brother, William Elliott and wife Diana; his sister, Dorothy Kirk and husband Jackie.
The service will be 11:00 AM Tuesday, May 17 at St. Williams Catholic Church in Knottsville with Father John Okoro officiating. Visitation will be Monday from 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM with prayers at 6:30 PM and from 9:00 AM till 10:00 AM Tuesday at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory. Burial will be in St. Williams Church Cemetery.
