Joseph Edward Durbin

Joseph Edward Durbin, 57, of 1139 Spencer Dr., Owensboro, died Wednesday, November 17, 2004 at Owensboro Medical Health System after a battle with cancer. He was born February 19, 1947 in Owensboro to Herman Joseph and Mary Elizabeth ''Betty'' Durbin. He was a member of Immaculate Catholic Church. He was self-employed as a real estate investor since 1996 and was the owner/operator of Joe Durbin Tire Company, Inc. of Owensboro from 1972 until its sale in 1987. He has also worked as a traveling salesperson for Hunter Engineering Corporation, as a store manager for Advance Auto Parts and as owner/operator of Petie's Pub. Outside of his successful business pursuits, he enjoyed spending time with his family and had a passion for cooking meals for his family gatherings; he was also an avid gardener. He is preceded in death by his father, Herman Joseph Durbin of Owensboro, and by a brother, James Durbin of Mannassas, VA.

Survivors include his wife of 36 years, Arlene Cirul Durbin; his mother, Mary Elizabeth Durbin of Owensboro, a son and daughter-in-law, John and April Durbin of Owensboro; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Julie and Ray Carlisle, Amy and Don Wilkins, and Emily Durbin all of Owensboro; two brothers, Rick Durbin and David Durbin both of Owensboro; two sisters, Judy Peak of Owensboro and Mary Jo Dickenson of Rockport, IN; six grandchildren, Carissa Carlisle, Andrew Carlisle, Ryan Carlisle, Ben Wilkins, and the expected birth of twins of Amy and Don Wilkins, all of Owensboro.

Funeral services will be held Friday, November 19, 2004, at 11 a.m. at Immaculate Catholic Church. Visitation will be from 2-8 p.m. Thursday, November 18, 2004 and after 9 a.m. on Friday at Glenn Funeral Home. Prayers will be said at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday at Glenn Funeral Home. Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery.
