Joseph Coomes

July 23, 1943 — January 3, 2008

Joseph "Dennie" Coomes, 64, of 1125 Carter Rd., Owensboro, passed away on Thursday, January 3, 2008 at Oakwood Health Campus in Tell City, Ind. He was born in Daviess Co., Ky. and was a member of Precious Blood Catholic Church. He was retired as a heavy equipment operator and mechanic for Harris Construction Co. He enjoyed Nascar racing, was a Jeff Gordon fan, and also loved working on cars and engines. He was preceded in death by his father, Joseph A. Coomes, Jr. in 1978 and a brother, David Eugene Coomes on Dec. 31, 2000.

Surviving is his wife of 43 years, Brenda Newton Coomes, two daughters, Kelly Coomes of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., Jennifer Blum and husband Kevin of Tell City, and a son, Josh King of Tell City, two grandchildren, his mother, Teresa Helen Coomes of Owensboro, three brothers, Thomas Anthony Coomes and wife Susan, Ivan Glenn Coomes, and Paul Francis Coomes. all of Owensboro, five sisters, Lois Marie Hoskins and husband Charles of Maceo, Joyce Ann Lambert and husband Paul of Owensboro, Rita Faye Wood and husband Billy of Owensboro, Doris Carolyn Modest and husband Mark of Ft. Lauderdale, and Jane Anita Coomes of Philpot, and numerous nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.

Services will be 1:30 P.M. Sunday, January 6, at the Glenn Funeral Home Chapel with burial following in Memory Gardens in Hawesville. Visitation will be from 2:00-8:00 P.M. Saturday and after 12 Noon Sunday at the funeral home.
