Joseph B. Bowlds

March 1, 1942 — May 19, 2012

Joseph B. "Joe" Bowlds, of Owensboro, passed away Saturday, May 19, 2012 surrounded by his loving family. Joe was retired and a member of Blessed Mother Catholic Church. He fought a brave and courageous battle of multiple myeloma for three years. He never complained, just worried about his family. He had an unconditional love for his family who was always first. His daughters and granddaughters could always put a smile on his face. He enjoyed picking his granddaughters up from school and taking them to eat. He liked to cook and bake for family and friends, enjoyed doing yard work, flowers, and small gardening.
He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Janet Wathen Bowlds, two daughters, Gina (Mike) Smith, Lisa (Joe) Edge, four granddaughters, Courtney Fogle, Taylor Edge, Chelsea Edge, McKenzie Smith, a very special niece whom he adored, Debbie (Bob) Fulkerson, a sister-in-law who is like a sister, Nancy (Dickie) Blandford, two special great-nieces, Lauren Morelli, Kara Goetz, and two great-nephews, Rob Blandford and Ryan Fulkerson.
Joe loved the girls at the Mitchel Cancer Center, Fr. John Meredith, Fr. Pat Roby, Dr. David Johnson, and Dr. Maheshwari. "They are the best". He could never give them enough thanks and praise. The nurses on Oncology were also "the best". He said that he never had a bad person to wait on him, but that there were none like the nurses at the Mitchel Cancer Center. He will be sadly missed by family and friends.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m.Tuesday, May 22, 2012 at Blessed Mother Catholic Church with Fr. John Meredith officiating. Burial will follow in St. Alphonsus Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday from 2 to 7 p.m. with prayers at 6 p.m., and also after 9 a.m. Tuesday, at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory. The family has requested that expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to the Mitchel Cancer Canter, and online condolences may be expressed at www.glennfuneralhome.com.
