Johnny L. Capps

Johnny L Capps Sr., 70, of Owensboro, Kentucky, passed away Saturday, October 5th, 2013 following a brief illness. Johnny was born June 27, 1943, in Louisville, KY. As a child he moved with his family to Western Kentucky. He married his best girl, Joann Berry, on December 10, 1959. He was a drywall finisher and painter by trade, but the last couple decades of his life he worked on his ''honey do list''. Never one to spend time sitting still, he didn't watch much TV except for the occasional Chicago Bears football game, UK basketball game, and especially his westerns. Few days passed when he didn't have a tool in his hand, always fixing or doing, most Decembers he could be found decorating the roof with a sleigh and reindeer and planting vegetables and flowers in the spring. He spent the last years going to visit friends and family and making the drive to visit his grandbabies at least three times a week. They squealed seeing his truck pull into the lane and within minutes of walking in the door he became a human jungle gym and most importantly, the very best Grandpa they could ever want.
In death he was reunited with the love of his life, his wife, Joann Capps, and his only son, Johnny Jr. Also waiting for him on the other side, his father, Stanley Capps, his beloved mother, Amie Woodard Capps, and his siblings, Allen, Gene, Bill, Charles, Price, Pearl, Wanda, and Jay.
Survivors include his daughter, Crystal West and her husband Edward West of Semiway, KY and the best parts of his days, his loving granddaughter, Eden West, his grandson and best buddy, Conan West, and his newest grandson, Wyatt West. Also surviving are his sister-in-law, Catherine Morris Schartung, and a host of nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 5:00 PM on Tuesday, October 8 at Woodlawn United Methodist Church, 1120 Woodlawn Avenue in Owensboro. Bro. Terry Fortner will officiate.
