John Dennis Youpatoff

August 21, 1946 — December 30, 2016

John Dennis Youpatoff, 70, of Owensboro passed away Friday, December 30,2016, at Owensboro Health Regional Hospital. He was born in Passaic, New Jersey to the late John and Marion Youpatoff, Jr. He lived in Garfield, New Jersey where he was a member of the Greek Orthodox Church. At seventeen John began attending Western Kentucky University where he graduated magna cum laude with his Bachelor of Arts degree and then later obtained his Master of Arts degree there as well. During his years at Western, he was a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity. Many of the friendships formed there, remained lifelong friends. After graduation, John taught fifth grade at Hebbardsville Elementary for one year. He then began teaching at Daviess County High School where he taught criminology, sociology, and other related fields for twenty-nine years. During that tenure, he also worked nights and weekends for ten years for Purolator Armored Truck Services.

John is survived by his wife DeLaine to whom he had been married for forty-five years. He is also survived by one son John Brian who lives in Pensacola, Florida.

John loved bass fishing as well as other types of fishing. He was recognized by the state of Florida for landing three diverse types of fish in the boat on the same day. John also loved bowling and was on a team in league bowling at Diamond Lanes South. He enjoyed target practice with guns. In addition, he enjoyed playing pinochle, cribbage, and other games tremendously. He loved to cook and was always attempting to make a perfect pizza. He taught himself to play the piano and found much enjoyment by playing new, varied arrangements. Old movies were also a passion, especially every version of A Christmas Carol ever made. He also enjoyed antique cars and Lionel trains. He enjoyed traveling, as long as he did not have to fly. He had his Kentucky Colonel license plate on his vehicle and usually met another Kentucky Colonel along the way. He especially enjoyed going to Canada, to the western states, and to Belize. That cruise to Belize and other Central America countries, as well as some others, brought him great enjoyment In spite of many health adversities during the last twenty-three years, he worked at living life and not dwelling on the negative aspects. Most of all, he loved his family and was devoted to them.

Services will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 4, 2016 at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory. Visitation will be 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. Tuesday and after 9:00 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will take place in Elmwood Cemetery.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to St. Jude Children's Hospital. 262 Danny Thomas Place Memphis, TN 38105. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
