Johnny, age 59, left this Earth with his loving family at his bedside Wednesday after a brief hospitalization. He was called home to Jesus in the midst of doing God's work at church 3 days prior to his death, never regaining consciousness. The family wishes to thank his extended family, church members, and countless friends for their love, prayer and support during this dark time of tremendous grief. Johnny knew no enemies on this planet.
Johnny had been playing church and gospel music since he was 14 years old. His many roles included being music director at Breckenridge St United Methodist Church, serving as pianist at his church, and singing and playing gospel music throughout western Kentucky. He was a graduate of Daviess County High School, class of '75. While music was his passion, he was employed at Kroger's for 35 years where his quick smile and warm nature touched a public well beyond his circle of acquaintance.
He is survived by his parents, Kenneth and Mary Whitehouse of Owensboro; siblings Linda Crabtree of Dyersburg, TN, Donna Whitehouse of Owensboro, and Alan and Tina Whitehouse of Augusta, GA. Also, his niece Tonya and Jay Wells and their three children Courtney (St. Louis), Alyssa, and Bailey of Murray, KY, nephew Dwayne K. and Sherri Crabtree of Rolla, MO., and dear cousins Jean Rodgers, and her son Gary Weddington of Owensboro.
The family wishes to express deep gratitude to the Physicians, Nurses, EMT's and staff of Owensboro Health Regional Hospital for their heroic effort on his behalf.
Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday in the chapel of Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery.
