John Wesley Tullis

John Wesley Tullis, 49 of Owensboro, died Tuesday, November 13 at his home. John was a native of Geff, Illinois, graduated from Fairfield High in Illinois, then graduated from Kentucky Wesleyan College with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Criminal Justice before going on to Northern Kentucky University Salmon B. Chase School of Law. He loved practicing as a criminal defense attorney, beginning April 2, 1992, considering it a "calling" for him. John was licensed to practice law in Kentucky and Indiana. He was a member of the Kentucky Bar Association, Daviess County Bar Association, the Association of Trial Lawyers of America, National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, and was licensed in the U.S. Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals. He was respected and admired by all, and had an inquisitive, brilliant mind. He was a wonderful father, husband, and son-in-law. He enjoyed traveling, was passionate about golf, and achieved his lifelong goal of playing golf in Scotland. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, where he served as a trustee, and had a deep Christian faith. John was also a Mason, and held various offices. He enjoyed spending time with his beloved dogs. He was preceded in death by his father, William Tullis, and his mother-in-law, Geraldine Mingus.
Surviving is his wife of 11 years, Lisa Mingus Tullis, a daughter, Eva Tullis of Owensboro, his mother, Melinda Clemmons ( Randall) Buchannan of Geff, IL, father-in-law, Robert (Jean) Mingus of Cloverport, sisters, Karen Tullis of Geff, IL, Alexis (Kent Berger) McGee of Evansville, IN, brother, Jesse (Savanah Bell) Tullis of Paducah, brothers-in-law, Gary Mingus of Louisville, TN, and James Mingus of Owensboro, nephews, Jacob Rogers and Trey Sterling, nieces, Jessica Sterling, Taylor Sterling, Janelle Mingus and Charlene Mingus, Kiera Tullis, Sienna Ray, a great-nephew, Finn Gallaher.
Funeral services will be held 12:00 p.m. Saturday, November 17, 2012 at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory, with Rev. Dr. Jonathan Carroll officiating. Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Friday at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory with Masonic rites. There will be no visitation prior to services on Saturday. The family has requested that expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to either, First Presbyterian Church, or the Daviess County Humane Society.
