John Edward Thompson

John E. Thompson, 94, of Arlington, TX left this life to meet his Lord, Savior, and Creator on Wednesday, May 18, 2016. John was the youngest of eight children, born to Annie and Henry Edward Thompson of Owensboro. John married Florence Wilhelm on June 25, 1952 in Hereford, TX and celebrated 59 years of marriage until her death in 2010. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, grandson Lee Overstreet, as well as all of his brothers and sisters and their spouses. He lived a good long life working as an accountant in Owensboro, New Mexico, Alaska, and Texas before settling back in Owensboro again. He spent the last five years in Arlington spending precious time with his family.

John enjoyed camping, fishing, and hiking. He also dabbled in woodworking, repairing automobiles, and just generally making everyone laugh. Everything was "plum jolly" when John was in the mix. He was a man of few words, but profound when he did speak. A deep thinker, but so much fun! John entered the Navy in 1940 attending recruit training in Great Lakes, Illinois before serving in Millington, TN and completing his service in 1944 in Corpus Christi, TX.

John is survived by his children, daughter Margaret Huff and husband Bill of Arlington, son Douglas Thompson and wife Theresa of Benbrook, TX, and son Edward Thompson and wife Linda of Philpot; sister-in-law Fran Wilhelm of Owensboro, sister-in-law Leora Andriakos and husband George of Warwick, PA, and a sister-in-law Jean Wilhelm of Houston, TX. His surviving grandchildren are Denice Rush and husband Dax of Denver, CO; Garrett and Connor Thompson of Benbrook, and great grandchildren Libby and Hudson Rush of Denver, and numerous nieces and nephews, step grandchildren, and step great grandchildren.

Services will be 10:00 A.M. Monday, May 23, at Immaculate Catholic Church with burial following in Mater Dolorosa Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1:00-5:00 P.M. Sunday with prayers at 5:00 P.M. and after 8:30 A.M. Monday at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory.
