John Thomas (JT) Taylor, 89, went to his eternal rest on January 30, 2016, with his family gathered around him, after a short time in the care of Hospice of Western Kentucky. He was born to the late Sherman and Virginia Smitha Taylor on April 6, 1926. JT was a member of Third Baptist Church for over 80 years, a Kentucky Colonel, Mason of Lodge 130, had served as President of Southern Little League and Owensboro Babe Ruth, and served two terms on the Owensboro Recreation Board.
JT worked for theArcadia tire company in the 1940's and worked independently the balance of his life. He sold TV's, home improvements, and bomb shelters. He was the youngest co-owner of the Kaise-Frazer car dealership, but settled into real estate the last 40 years mainly on the commercial side. JT was also preceded in death by his beloved wife, Mary Dawson Taylor; brothers, Harold, Randall and Francis Taylor; and infant sister, Mary Louise Taylor.
Survivors include his son, Jon Dawson Taylor; daughter, Jennifer Taylor Stebbins; granddaughters, Sarah Taylor Vanover (Rob) of Lexington, Mary Taylor Scott (Matt) of New Jersey, and Virginia Beth Taylor Bennett (Jerry) of Owensboro; great-grandsons, Jack Dawson Vanover and James Robert Vanover; sister-in-law, Virginia Dawson McEuen; many nieces and nephews; and also a special friend and caretaker, Brenda Moseley.
Services will be at 4 p.m. Wednesday in the Chapel of Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory. Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. on Wednesday. Burial will be in Owensboro Memorial Gardens.
