John Leader Selwitz, 60, of Owensboro passed away Saturday, September 21, 2024, at his home. The Murray, Kentucky native was born August 8, 1964, to the late Harvey Paul Selwitz and Martha Inman Selwitz. John graduated from Marshall County High School, class of 1981. He lived in several states as his father moved around with his job. He eventually met his future wife in California and after getting married, moved back to Benton, Kentucky. John attended Paducah Community College and received his degree in Physical Therapy. He and his family then lived in Tennessee and Virginia where John had a stroke and relocated to Owensboro in 2018. John enjoyed cooking, going out to eat, traveling with his wife, and being outdoors. He was also an avid UK fan. John was a great provider and compassionate toward others. He could dispel a tense situation with a joke.
In addition to his parents, John also was preceded in death by his wife, Alice Selwitz, in February of this year and his brother-in-law, Tom Muehleman.
Those left to cherish his memory include his sons, John Selwitz Jr. of Owensboro, Paul Selwitz (Ashley) of Dyersburg, TN, and Richard Sanchez (Kimberly) of Kingman, AZ; four grandchildren, Emma Sanchez, Max Sanchez, Mia Sanchez, and Chloe Selwitz; siblings, Steve Selwitz (Ada Sue), Rebecca Muehleman, Edward Selwitz (Barbara); several nieces and nephews.
The family will schedule a memorial service for John at Collier Funeral Home in Benton at a date yet to be determined. Care by Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory.
Expressions of sympathy may take the form of planting a tree in John’s memory.
