John Thomas "J.T." Sandefur, 88, of Owensboro, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family on October 20, 2012 at his residence. He was born in Delaware, KY to the late Elmo and Sally Irene (McLimore) Sandefur.
J.T. was a World War II Veteran of the U.S. Navy.
He was a mechanic at Harry Holder Motors and was in charge of maintenance at Kentucky Tech (vocational school) on Frederica for several years. J.T. was a member of Owensboro Christian Church and Ensor Masonic Lodge #729 F&AM where he served as Master in 1977.
J.T. was an avid fisherman and enjoyed gardening. He was also a passionate U.K. fan.
J.T. was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Martine Cecil Sandefur in 2003; a daughter, Donna Kay Sympson; his parents; a grandson, Brian Goodman; sisters, Louise Martin and Madeline Preston and a great granddaughter, Ireland Goodman.
He is survived by; a daughter, Sandy Goodman, son-in-law and best friend, Ray Goodman; grandson, Jeffrey Goodman (Scarlett), all of Owensboro; grand daughter-in-law, Sam Goodman of Louisville; six beloved great grandchildren, Wyatte, Belle, Elise, India, Emma and Chloe; a brother, Junior Sandefur of Taylorsville, KY and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be held at Noon on Wednesday, October 24 at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory. Rev. Jody Thomas (great nephew) will officiate. Burial will be at Rosehill Cemetery. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 4 - 8 PM and after 10:00 AM on Wednesday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to American Heart Association or Hospice of Western Kentucky.
