John Andrew Popowski, 78, of Owensboro, passed away Thursday, November 27, 2014. He was born October 19, 1936 in Detroit, Michigan to the late John and Victoria Popowski. John retired from General Motors, Hydramatic Division in 1990 and worked on the first lunar land rover on the moon while he worked for the Bendix Corporation.
John served his country 3 years in the U.S. Army, and served as the President of the Owensboro Chapter of Mended Hearts for 5 years. John was a parishioner of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church. He was also an avid fisherman, he loved sharing this sport with his family, especially his grandsons.
John is survived by his loving family, wife of 54 years, Bonnie Popowski; daughters, Janine Lehman and Marisa Colston (Jon); grandsons, Jarett Lehman (Cindy), Jayce Popowski (Molly), and Alex Colston; great granddaughter, Alexis Lehman; great grandson, Bryce Popowski; and sister, Phylis Lewis (Jim).
Service will be 10am Monday at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church. Visitation will be 5-7pm Sunday at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory. Prayers will begin at 6pm.
In Lieu of flowers donations may be made to Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church.
