John Kutsor, age 89, of Owensboro, peacefully entered into eternal rest on October 13, 2024, at his home surrounded by family and friends. Born on March 27, 1935, in Cambria County, Pennsylvania, to the late John and Susan Malisa Kutsor, John led a life marked by faith, family, and service.
Shortly after graduating from Spangler High School in Pennsylvania, John enlisted in the United States Army, serving his country with pride and earning the first National Defense Service Medal. His military service instilled in him a deep sense of duty, which he carried throughout his life. Upon completing his service in 1957, John began a long and successful career with General Electric in Liverpool, New York, where he worked for 47 years before retiring from MPD in 2000.
It was during his time in New York that John met the love of his life, Margaret Ann "Peggy" Clancy, at a Catholic Young Adults event in Syracuse. Their first meeting, under a tree where Peggy sat, sparked a romance that led to a beautiful marriage and the beginning of a family they cherished together.
In 1977, John's career with General Electric brought the family to Owensboro, where he continued to excel in various roles, including technician, quality control operator, and manager. His work ethic was exemplary, and his dedication was evident in all he did.
A man of deep faith, John was a devoted member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church. He actively participated as an usher, picnic volunteer, and member of the men's club. His faith was the guiding principle of his life, and he had a profound appreciation for the beauty of nature as a reflection of God's creation.
In addition to his church activities, John was a lifelong sports enthusiast who enjoyed bowling, softball, and golf. His commitment to service extended beyond his professional life, as he was a dedicated member of the American Legion Post 787 in Cicero, New York, for over 50 years, serving as both chaplain and vice commander adjutant. He was also a founding member of the Apollo Area Alliance in Owensboro, and his voice was frequently heard in the "Messenger Inquirer's" Readers Write section, where he shared his thoughts and opinions.
Above all, John was a family man. He and Peggy raised their children with love, instilling in them the values of faith, hard work, and integrity. Family vacations were often spent visiting loved ones. John treasured the time spent with his family, especially during their lively game nights playing dice, card games, Trivial Pursuit, and Pictionary.
John Kutsor leaves behind a legacy of faith, love, and service. He will be deeply missed, but his family finds peace knowing that he has gone to be with the Lord, whom he faithfully served throughout his life.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 60 years, Margaret Ann "Peggy" Kutsor; sisters, Sophia Mendolera and Joan Brown; brother, Demetrius Kutsor; and son-in-law Kenneth Horn.
Those left to cherish his memory include his daughters, Mary Beth Owsley (Mark) and Maureen Horn; sons, John David Kutsor (Robin), Michael Kutsor (Kerrie), and Jeff Kutsor (Jamie); 10 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren; brother, Gregory Kutsor (Vivian)
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to everyone who was involved in his care.
The funeral Mass for John Kutsor will be held at 11 am Saturday, October 19, 2024, at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church. Burial with military honors will follow at Resurrection Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm Friday, October 18, 2024, at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory. Visitation Saturday will be from 10:00 am until 11:00 am at the Church.
