John Louis Kuegel, Sr.

John Louis Kuegel, Sr., 92, of Owensboro, passed away Wednesday, April 22, 2026 surrounded by family and friends. He was under the care of Hospice and Palliative Care of Western Kentucky. John was born January 16, 1934 in Daviess County to the late Martin Michael and Cecil Crabtree Kuegel.

Mr. Kuegel was a graduate of Owensboro High School where he had been recruited to play basketball. He continued his education at the University of Kentucky, where he was a member of the Farmhouse Fraternity. John spent time traveling as part of his work with the farming organization, KYANA, after college. He also humbly served his country as a 2nd Lieutenant in the U.S. Army during these years. He joined the family business in 1962 and worked as a dairy farmer for many decades, earning recognition as KYANA Dairyman of the Year.

He was a longtime member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and committed more than 20 years serving diligently in a church plant, Pleasant Memorial Baptist Church. John was also a very dedicated Gideon, having served with the Owensboro West Camp for many years.

John was passionate about his faith, loved time with family, served people in many ways, enjoyed farming and played a little golf. He will be remembered for his genuine interest in others, their families and their connections in the community. Mr. Kuegel will be dearly missed by many.

He is reunited in heaven with his parents and all of his siblings, Bill, Becky (Newman), Bobby, Jimmy, and Jan. John was the last of his generation of Kuegel brothers.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Faye Colvin Kuegel; two children, Renee (Mark Roberts) and John, Jr. (Leigh Ann); four grandchildren, Jacob (Kayla), Rachel (Ben), Johnna, and Joshua; four great-grandchildren, Brooklyn Alivia, Reagan Lorraine, John Thomas, and Riley Grace; many nieces and nephews; and numerous cherished friends.

The funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM, Tuesday, April 28 at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. Visitation will also be at church on Monday from 2:00 until 7:00 PM and Tuesday from 9:00 AM until the time of service. Burial, with military honors, will follow at Pleasant Grove Cemetery.
