John James Anderson

John James Anderson, 66, passed away Easter Sunday, April 5, 2026 at the Heartford House. He was a husband, father, businessman, and adventurer. He was born January 29, 1960 in Rome, Georgia. John was the middle son of the late Richard Nelson Anderson and Sally Keller Anderson, who survives him.

John was a graduate of Owensboro High School where he played football, basketball, and was on the swim team. He attended Memphis State University where he played D1 football and was a graduate of the University of Kentucky. His business career began with David Hocker and Associates. John’s career included holding positions in commercial real estate for more than 25 years, including Executive Vice President of Leasing for one of New England's leading commercial real estate companies. His career took him and his family from Kentucky to Dallas, to Connecticut, leading teams of leasing professionals for portfolios and commercial properties across 30 of the United States. John is remembered by his clients and team members for his integrity, professionalism, and good humor. His faith in Christ was central to all of his relationships and endeavors. John authored a book about his faith journey entitled, “I Was Ten Years Old When I Went For A Walk”. Upon returning to Owensboro, John was Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Sun Windows, with his team expanding the company's markets and achieving unprecedented sales. He was also a member of First Baptist Church.

John led a life of adventure. He held a private pilot license, active in a myriad of avionic ventures including everything from paramotoring, paragliding, parasailing, RC airplanes, and jumping from cliffs strapped to a hang glider. He also owned and loved to fly experimental aircraft, such as ultralights. An avid cyclist, John enjoyed long-distance road biking, at times over 100 miles crossing state borders, as well as mountain biking. Sailing, windsurfing, waterskiing, free diving, and scuba diving were also at the top of John’s adventures. These are but a fraction of the things he found joy in. He loved the water. He loved the air. He loved life, his family, his friends, and most of all he loved Jesus. Up until the end John often reflected on how blessed, fortunate, and full his life had been. Proof of that was how few regrets he had, and how many people far and wide came to visit and/or make known their heartfelt memories.

Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Katherine Assmar Anderson; his children, John ‘Preston’ Anderson and Raye Anderson Troutman, both of Owensboro; his grandchildren Jonah Troutman and James Troutman, of Owensboro; his mother Sally Keller Anderson of Whitesville; and his brothers Richard Nelson Anderson Jr. of Winchester, TN, and Stuart Keller Anderson of Whitesville.

The memorial service for John James Anderson will be 2:00 p.m. Monday at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory where visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. Internment in Elmwood Cemetery will follow.
