John William Jacobs

April 5, 1957 — November 15, 2008

John Williams Jacobs, United States Army, Retired, 51, died unexpectedly Saturday, November 15, 2008 at his home. Born in Owensboro, a son of the late Steve Anthony Jacobs and Wynema Joyce Uptigrove Jacobs, Mr. Jacobs spent 21 years in service to his country, having served as a member of the 101st Airborne through Operation Desert Storm, Operation Desert Shield, as well as tours in Germany, Korea, Saudi Arabia, Ft. Campbell, Alaska, and Virginia. Retiring as a Sergeant First Class, he had been awarded the Bronze Star, the Kuwait Liberation Medal and many other decorations, and was presented the key to the City of Owensboro in recognition of his service to his country. Following his retirement, he worked for Prairie Farms and at the time of his death was employed at UniFirst. His lifelong commitments were to his family and his country.

Survivors include his wife of 31 years, Susie Evans Jacobs; his daughters, Claudia Renee Jacobs-Jones of Owensboro and Kimberly Ann Jacobs Payne and her husband Brandon of Philpot, his grandchildren, MaKayla Rhea Jones and Bladen Jacob Jones, both of Owensboro, his sisters, Joyce Edelen and Connie Sue Saalwaechter, both of Owensboro, and his brother Robert Jacobs of Lusedale, MS. He also leaves behind several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Services, officiated by the Rev. Jimmy Bunch, are at 12:00 noon Wednesday at Glenn Funeral Home, where visitation will be from 2:00 until 8:00 p.m. Tuesday and after 9:00 a.m. Wednesday. Burial, with full military honors, will be in the Field of Honor at Owensboro Memorial Gardens.
