John Howerton Jr., 78, of Owensboro, passed away February 16, 2014 at home. He was born in Nelson, KY on June 21, 1935, to the late John Sr. and Marjorie Howerton. John loved sports. He enjoyed watching the St. Louis Cardinals, Green Bay Packers and loved watching UK basketball with his grandchildren. John retired after 33 years at Green River Steel as a Railroad Engineer. Other things he enjoyed was listening to music and reading. John was a member of the Baptist Faith. He was preceded in death by a brother, Donald Edwin Howerton.
Survivors include the love of his life, high school sweetheart, and wife of 60 years, Ilene Howerton; daughter, Susan Howerton Jackson; sons, John Howerton III, Barry Alan Howerton (Jill) all of Owensboro and son Michael Douglas Howerton (Sabrina) of Cape Coral, FL; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be Wednesday, February 19, 2014 from 12:30PM to 1:30PM at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory. A private service will be held afterwards. Burial will be at Owensboro Memorial Gardens.
Memorial contributions can be made to Hospice of Kentucky or St. Jude Children's Hospital.
