John Hopkins, 92, of Owensboro passed away Monday, September 8, 2008, at his home. Born June 22, 1916, Mr. Hopkins was the son of the late William and Maggie Shular Kelley; was retired from Glenn Drilling Company where he was an accountant; and was of the Methodist faith. He had also worked as an accountant for the Ellis Estate and Ellis Park. He enjoyed NASCAR, horse racing and other sports. He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Hopkins in 2003 and a son-in-law, Richard T. Porter, Jr. in 2001.
He is survived by daughters, Mary Margaret Porter of Collinsville, IL and Nancy ( Gene) Becker of Bowling Green, KY; grandchildren; Amy Kathryn ( Mike) Reynolds of St. Louis, Richard ( Carrie) Porter, III of Troy, IL, and Sarah Catherine Becker of Bowling Green; and great-grandchildren, Caroline and Mary Kate Reynolds and Brenden Porter.
Services are 12 noon Friday, September 12, 2008 at Glenn Funeral Home followed by burial in Lewisport Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. on Thursday and after 10 A.M. on Friday at the funeral home.
Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Hospice.
