John E. Hitchell

John E. Hitchell, 85, of Memphis, went to be with the Lord on September 19, 2014. John was born on April 28, 1929 in DeWitt County, IL. He was raised by his late grandparents Bert and Nellie Hitchell. In 1947 he graduated from Empire Township High School and went on to serve in the National Guard. During the Korean Conflict John was called to active duty with the Army from 1952-1953. In the summer of 1950 he married the love of his life, Emily Jane Hitchell, in Piggott, Arkansas. John was employed by Prairie Farm Milk Company from 1964 until 1994 in which he held various positions in both accounting and management. John became a member of Owensboro Christian Church in 1978 and served various roles including; Chairman of the Board of Elders, Decision Counselor, and Sunday School Teacher.

Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Emily Jane Hitchell; sons John C. Hitchell of Cincinnati, Bob (Karen) Hitchell of Eads. TN, and Dan (Beth) Hitchell of New Albany OH; 7 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.

The funeral service for John will be at 2 pm Friday, September 26, 2014 at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory. Visitation will be from 4 until 7 pm on Thursday and after 1 pm Friday at the funeral home. Burial will take place at East Lawn Memorial Park in Bloomington IL.
