John R. Heflin, 64, of Owensboro, died Thursday, April 25, 2002 at Leisure Years Nursing Home. He was born May 26, 1937 in Owensboro, Kentucky the son of John and Lillian Harrison Heflin. He was retired from the Kentucky State Racing Commission. He was a member of First Baptist Church and was a US Army Veteran.
Survivors include his former wife, Sylvia Heflin; two sons, John R. Heflin, III of Lexington, KY and Jason L. Heflin of Owensboro; two daughters, Julie Heflin Brown of Cincinnati and Jennifer Heflin Bosley of Owensboro; six grandchildren; one brother, Tom Heflin of Owensboro; four sister, Bettye Heflin of Cincinnati, Sue Nelle Enlow of Rockport, IN, Pat Nielsen and Lynda Neel, both of Owensboro; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be 1:00 p.m. Monday, April 29, 2002 at Glenn Funeral Home Chapel, officiated by Reverend Scott Wilkins. Entombment will follow in Resurrection Cemetery. His family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. Sunday, April 28, 2002 and after 10:00 a.m. Monday.
