John Dwight Graham, 71, of 2658 Strawbridge Place, Owensboro, passed away on Friday, February 29, 2008 at his home. He was born in Jackson, Oh. to the late John Jacob and Delphine Hoover Graham. He was a retired Viet Nam veteran after 21 years of service in the U. S. Army and also retired as a Maintenance Supervisor for seven counties after 11 years with the Green River Area Health Dept. During his career in the Army, he received numerous awards and medals including a Purple Heart, Bronze Star, Army Accomendation medal with the 3-D Oak Leaf Cluster, 3 Overseas Service Bars, Air Medal, Combat Infantryman Badge, Master Parachutist Badge, Good Conduct Medal (5th award), Republic of Viet Nam Campaign Medal, Viet Nam Services Medal w/5 Campaign Stars, and National Defense Service Medal w/ first Oak Leaf Cluster. He was a member of Buena Vista Baptist Church and the American Military Society, a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans, and had been a member of the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He enjoyed camping, fishing, hunting, bowling, gardening, having coffee at the 8-Ball Restaurant, Ohio State Football, and spending lots of time with his children and grandchildren.
Surviving are his wife of 48 years, Mary Helen Baker Graham, a son, Jay D. Graham and wife Nita of Hawesville, three daughters, Stacy Ann Karney and husband Walter, Jr., Marilee Thurby, and Emily Ann Graham, all of Owensboro, six grandchildren, Christopher J. Michael Graham, Johnathon Edward Jackson, Jacob Daniel Graham, Cynthia Lyn Ward, David Tyler Parker, and MiKayla Elizabeth Waninger, a sister, Shirley Kelley of Sante, Ca., five half-sisters, Patricia Saffell, Bonnie Creech, Rebecca Graham, and Regaina Graham, all of Jackson, Oh. and Wilda Thomas of Santa Barbara, Ca., and a half-brother, Steven Graham, all of Jackson, Oh.
Services will be 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, March 4, at the Glenn Funeral Home Chapel with entombment following in Owensboro Memorial Gardens Mausoleum. Visitation will be from 2:00-8:00 P.M. Monday and after 11:00 A.M. Tuesday at the funeral home.
