John Darrell "Dagwood" Flake, 59, of Owensboro, passed away Wednesday, August 14, 2013 at Owensboro Health Regional Hospital. Born in Breckenridge County, Darrell was a graduate of Daviess County High School, attended Western Kentucky University, and received certification in electrical technology from the then Owensboro Vocational Center. He was employed as a line crew supervisor with Owensboro Municipal Utilities where he had worked for 34 years. He loved his time with his children and grandchildren, golf, UK sports, carpentry, and his animals, particularly his dog Jasmine. He was preceded in death by his mother and step-father, Winona Henderson Lane and Wallace "Buddy" Lane, his father, John Flake, and his father-in-law Robert "Bobby" Millay.
Darrell is survived by his wife, Lori Millay Flake; his children, Chris Flake and his wife Abby of Owensboro and Leah Sanders and her husband John of Georgetown; his sister, Linda Hendricks and her husband Terry of Owensboro; his granddaughters Caroline Flake, Sophie Flake, and Everly Sanders; his grandson Eli Sanders; his nieces Amber Arvin and Heather Frazier; and his mother-in-law Faye Millay, all of Owensboro.
The service for Mr. Flake will be 12:00 noon Saturday at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory, where visitation will be from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. Friday and after 10:00 a.m. Saturday. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to the Daviess County Humane Society.
