John Eugene Cooper, Sr., 80, of 2540 Hayden Bridge Road, Owensboro, died Sunday, August 18, 2002 at Owensboro Mercy Health System. He was born in Daviess County, Kentucky on January 25, 1922 the son of John and Minnie Henrietta Yaney Cooper.
Mr. Cooper retired from Green River Steel after 23 years and had worked at Ideal Pure Milk Co. for 13 years. He was a member of Calvary Temple Assembly of God Church. He was an Army veteran of World War II and enjoyed watching NASCAR and University of Kentucky basketball.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Sarah Ruth Main Cooper: three sons, John E. Cooper, Jr., Bill E. Cooper and Robert A. Cooper, all of Owensboro; three daughters, Pat Hodges, Jan Adams and Ann Hopewell, all of Owensboro; 13 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Minnie H. Horn of Owensboro.
Funeral services will be 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, August 21, 2002 at Calvary Temple Assembly of God Church, officiated by Reverend Louis Nall. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery. His family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 20, 2002 and after 9:00 a.m. Wednesday at Glenn Funeral Home.
