John Hancock Colbert

January 14, 1929 — May 20, 2005

John H. Jack Colbert, 76, of 4772 Winkler Road, Philpot, died Saturday, May 21, 2005 at Hillcrest Healthcare Center. Born in Madison County, KY, he was a member of Riverside Baptist Church, retired from Colonial Bakery, and was a United States Army veteran of the Korean War during which service he received the Combat Infantry Badge, the Bronze Star with cluster, and the Silver Star. Mr. Colbert was an Eagle Scout, achieving that rank at the age of 14 while a member of Troop 24 at Settle Memorial United Methodist Church. He was a member of Disabled American Veterans and the Masonic Lodge. His first wife, Marjorie LeMaster Colbert preceded him in death in 1993 and his foster mother, Della Colbert, in 1947.

Survivors include his wife, Doris Main Colbert; his step-sons, Monty G. Hancock, Jr. of Hartford and Gregory W. Hancock of Owensboro; his step-daughters, Cynthia K. Machala of Owensboro and Elizabeth A. Shouse, of Philpot; his brother, Lester Willis, of Richmond, KY; 8 step-grandchildren and 8 step-great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday at Glenn Funeral Home, where visitation will be from until 2:00 until 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, and after 10:00 a.m. Wednesday. Burial will be in Rosehill Cemetery.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to the Riverside Baptist Church or the Kentucky Baptist Childrens Homes.
