John T. “Jack” Cecil, 94, of Owensboro, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 17, 2023, at the Heartford House while under the care of Hospice of Western Kentucky. He was born April 16, 1929, in Owensboro, to the late Anthony Dominic Cecil and Lucy P. Hayden Cecil. A pharmacist and avid photographer, he was a native of Owensboro, a 1947 graduate of St. Joseph High School, and a 1961 graduate of the University of Kentucky with a Registered Pharmacy degree. He was an avid UK basketball fan and had previously served as President and photographer of his Alumni Chapters in Daviess County and Sarasota / Suncoast.
Jack was a proud veteran of the United States Air Force where he served during the Korean War. He and his wife, Regina, were owners of Jack’s Pharmacy in Owensboro until their retirement in 1992. In retirement, they enjoyed their home on Kentucky Lake, and Jack also spent much of his later retirement in Sarasota, FL.
Along with his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Regina Nelson Cecil.
Jack is survived by his two sons, Dr. John Cecil (Vicky) of Gilbertsville, KY and Denney Cecil of Owensboro; a daughter, Becky Cecil (Deborah) of Sarasota, FL; five grandchildren, Clay Cecil (Sarah), Chris Cecil, Corey Cecil, Caitlyn Cecil Hill (Jason), and Morgan Cecil Eddmenson (Aaron); and one great-grandchild, Jackson Tyler Hill.
A time of gathering to celebrate Jack will be held from 12:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. Saturday, November 25, 2023, at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory. Beginning at 3:30 p.m., the visitation time will be followed by prayers with Father Ray Clark and full military honors from the Air Force, and the Local VFW Post #696.
