John T. Bristow, 86, of Owensboro passed away Tuesday, August 9, 2005 at his home after a short illness. Born in Owensboro on May 22, 1919, Mr. Bristow was the son of the late Guy and Rosalie Patrick Bristow. He retired as owner/operator of Bristows Motor Sales after 45 years and also operated a Marathon Service Station at the corner of Main and Woodford Streets for over 23 years. He was a member of Hall Street Baptist Church where he was a member and secretary of the Fishermans Sunday School Class. Mr. Bristow enjoyed cars, dancing, fishing, and playing cards with his friends. He and Mrs. Bristow organized the local chapter of Compassionate Friends. He was preceded in death by a son, Gary Bobo Bristow in 1974 and a sister, Jo Ann McGhee.
Mr. Bristow is survived by his wife of 55 years, Martine Jones Bristow; a son and daughter-in-law, Tom and Karen Bristow of Owensboro; two grandchildren, Andy Bristow and Laura Bristow both of Owensboro; three great-grandchildren, Trevor Thomas Bristow, Jonathan Thomas Brown, and Queelyn Coriana Brown all of Owensboro; and two sisters, Dorothy (and Ertis) Cox of Owensboro and Shirley (and Tony) Ayers of Louisville.
Funeral services are 11:30 A.M. Friday, August 12, 2005 at Glenn Funeral Home with burial in Rosehill Cemetery with military honors provided by VFW Post 696. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 2-8 P.M. on Thursday and after 9 A.M. on Friday.
