John A. Bowles, 77, of Owensboro passed away Friday, April 26, 2024, at Signature Hillcrest Nursing and Rehab. The Coco Solo, Panama native was born November 25, 1946, to the late Aaron Cornelius “A.C.” Bowles and Virginia Voelker Bowles. John graduated from Owensboro High School, class of 1964, where he was active in R.O.T.C. He served in the U.S. Airforce as an Environmental Analyst and retired after twenty years with the rank of Master Sargeant. John was then employed by the Airforce at Arnold AFB in Tennessee as an independent contractor in the same capacity. He also served youth in leadership in both Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts. John loved watching sports, especially UK basketball and football. He was also an avid reader as well as being very competitive in darts. As a result of his military service, John traveled extensively from Alaska to Florida as well as the Marshall Islands, Greece, Germany.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Marisol Sierra Bowles, of Panama; daughter, Ali Huffman (Danny) of Owensboro, son, Joshua Bowles (Abigail) of Philpot, step-son, Horatio Moreno (Desiree), step-daughter, Marisolita Moreno Perez (Javi) both of Panama; five grandchildren, Sebastian Huffman, Elijah Bowles, and Isaiah Bowles, Alejandro and Sol Marie Perez; the mother of his two children, Marty Hazelrigg Shively; brother, David Bowles (Camelia); several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service for John Bowles will be 11:00 am Saturday, May 11 at St. John United Methodist Church with same day visitation from 9:00 am until the time of service. Care by Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory.
