John D. Blocher

John D. "One Shot John" Blocher, 91, formerly of Owensboro, died Tuesday, January 13, 2009, at Jewish Hospital in Louisville. He was born June 7, 1917, to the late Arch and Dora Day Blocher in Daviess County. He was owner and operator of Kwik-Way Laundry in Owensboro for many years, and enjoyed raising orchids from seed, and many other types of gardening. He was a Veteran of WW II, and was a member of the Owensboro Rifle Club, and truly enjoyed being outdoors, fishing, hunting and all wildlife. He liked to travel to the West, and being with his family.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Lavinia Blocher in December, 2000, a brother, Arch Blocher II.

Survivors include his daughter, Joan Fenstad of Bedford, KY; three grandchildren, Sheryl Norris, Wayne Swikert, and Paula Swikert; three great-grandchildren, Jason and Michael Norris and Kirsten Rose Swikert; one great-great-grandchild, Cameron Ferguson, all of Louisville, KY; his sister, Mary Edgren of Bellevue, NE; three nieces, Carol Taylor of Bellevue, NE, Cindy Freeman of Freemont, CA, and Ceclia Nussbaum of San Antonia, TX, two nephews, Arch Blocher, III of Millersville, MD, and Scott Edgren of Bellevue, NE; a close friend, Walter Graham of Lexington, KY.

Services will be 2:00 PM Saturday, at Glenn Funeral Home with burial in Elmwood Cemetery. Visitation will be 10:00 AM until 2:00 PM Saturday at the funeral home. Online condolences may be made at www.glennfuneralhome.com
