John Randall Blewer, 86, died on Thursday in Plano, TX. He was born in Shreveport, LA on September 9, 1929 to Edwin and Mildred Blewer. In 1950 he graduated from LSU, returned to Shreveport to work for Barrow Leary, a brokerage firm, and entered the armed services as a 2nd Lieutenant. In 1951 he was promoted to 1st Lieutenant where he became a psychological warfare officer in the Army General School. Being honorably discharged from active duty in 1952, he was appointed to Captain in 1954. It was at this time he began working for Texas Eastern Transmission Corp.
In 1959, John married Nancy Harper and moved to Irvington-On-Hudson, New York accepting employment in New York City with Bozell & Jacobs, an advertising firm. In 1960, he moved to Owensboro to become Director of Public Relations for Texas Gas Transmission and retired in 1987 as V.P. of Financial and Public Relations.
John was an avid reader and collector of old and more recent theological works. He enjoyed serving on the Owensboro-Daviess Co. Library board and as chairman of the Salvation Army board of directors. In 2002, after 42 years in Owensboro, he and Nancy moved to Plano, TX to be near family. In doing so, he made the difficult decision to leave behind Heritage Baptist Church which had a commanding influence upon his life.
John was preceeded in death by a son, John Blewer Jr. in 1984. He is survived by Nancy, his wife of 56 years; a daughter, Susan Sullivan and her husband Bill of Plano, TX; two grandsons, William Tyler Sullivan and Stephen Austin Sullivan; a sister, Betty Blewer Carroll of Columbia, MD; and a brother, Robert Sewall Blewer of Albuquerque, NM.
A funeral service will be held at 10:00 am Tuesday at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory with interment following at Elmwood Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday from 4:00 to 7:00 and from 9:00 Tuesday at the funeral home.
