John Allen Bivins

John A. Bivins, 72, of Owensboro, passed away on Tuesday, June 12, 2012 at Owensboro Medical Health System. He was born on May 20, 1940 in Daviess Co., KY to the late James Carl and Mary Ellen Duncan Bivins. John was a member of Bethlehem United Methodist Church and was retired from Green River Steel after 40 years of service. He loved having cookouts and spending time with family and friends, especially his grandchildren. He also enjoyed reading, doing tax returns, yardwork, and going to J D's for lunch on Thursday with his son, Derek. He was also preceded in death by a brother, William A. Bivins.

Surviving are his wife of 50 years, Floy Duane Bivins, two sons, Derek Bivins (Lee Ann King) of Owensboro, and Rodney Bivins (Sharron Hayes) of Owensboro, two daughters, Crystal (Jim) Howell of Fishers, IN and Robin (Scott) Merritt of Owensboro, eight grandchildren, Melissa Hatfield, Julie Hill, Nathen Bivins, Kelsey Bivins, Payton Merritt, Mackenzie Merritt, Cody Bivins, and Hannelore Bivins, four great grandchildren, Delaney Hatfield, Ella Hatfield, Lily Rose Cecil, and Ava Grace Hill, and a brother, James Robert Bivins of Yelvington.

Services are 12 Noon Saturday, June 16, at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory. Burial will follow in Fairmont Cemetery in Henderson. Visitation will be from 2:00-8:00 P.M. Friday and after 10:00 A.M. Saturday at the funeral home.
