John Smith Armstrong, 84, of Owensboro, passed away April 15, 2018, at Owensboro Health Regional Hospital. He was born on May 27, 1933, in Cadiz, Ky, to the late Thomas and Lucille Armstrong. He attended Trigg County High School, and later graduated from Murray State University. Afterwards, he served in the United States Army in Korea. He had a 35yr career with State Farm Insurance Co., and a retirement filled with a variety of charitable and volunteer activities. His wonderful church family was centered around Trinity United Methodist, where he faithfully participated for many years. He was also very proud of his endeavors with the Civitan Club, which helped fund our local shelters and facilities for those in need. His peers recently awarded him with a "LifeTime Achievement " honor for his continued efforts. But most importantly, he was the beloved patriarch of a very large, and loyal family.
John was preceded in death by his first wife, Doris Marlowe Armstrong; second wife, Bonnie Lester Fitzpatrick; step-father, Joe E. Nunn; brother, William Thomas Armstrong; and grandson, Jeremy Benton.
He is survived by his daughter, Dianne Ledang; son, Mike Armstrong and his wife, Cuba; grandchildren, Bo and Gunnar Armstrong, Josh, Jason, and Jared Benton, and Jon and Abby Ledang; as well as eight great-grandchildren.
Services will be 10AM Friday, April 20, at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory. Burial will follow at 2PM in Cadiz at East End Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 4PM to 8PM and after 9AM Friday at the funeral home.
