John E. Anderson, 83, of Owensboro, went to be with the Lord on Friday, July 26, 2013 at Red Banks Nursing Home in Henderson. He was born on September 10, 1929 in the Philpot Community to the late Samuel S. and Bessie L. Howard Anderson. John was very gifted, but what he enjoyed most was talking to people about the Lord, greeting friends that came to Dawson Baptist Church where he was a member, and visitation night for the church. He loved his church and his many friends, rabbit hunting and running his dogs, his farm and the farm life. John, along with his very dear friend Kenneth Foster, would visit area nursing homes every Tuesday and Thursday nights and play taped music that was recorded at church for the many residents of the homes. He was a U. S. Army veteran of the Korean War and retired from Quality Oil Co. He was also preceded in death by four brothers, Carl, Hugh, Elmer, and Roy Anderson and his sister, Melba Grace Hagman.
Surviving are his wife of 58 years, Connie Voyles Anderson, two sons, Aaron and wife Pam Anderson of Owensboro and Donald and wife Judy Anderson of Philpot, four grandchildren, Maggie (Matthew) Wickline of St. Louis, Christopher (Tiffany) Anderson of Evansville, Patrick (Juliet) Shemwell of Eglan Air Force Base in Crestview, FL, and Marcus (Emily) Shemwell of Vanderburg Air Force Base in California, four great grandchildren, and a brother, William "Bill" Anderson of Owensboro.
Services will be 10:00 A.M. Tuesday, July 30, at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory with entombment following in Owensboro Memorial Gardens Mausoleum. Visitation will be from 2:00-8:00 P.M. Monday and after 8:30 A.M. Tuesday at the funeral home.
