John Bernie Alwes, 84, of Rancho Viejo, TX, formerly of Louisville, died Thursday, May 2, 2002, in Owensboro.
The Louisville native was the former owner of Alwes Outdoor Advertising in Louisville and retired from Naegele Outdoor Advertising. A Navy veteran of World War II, he was an accomplished artist and had recently retired as an alderman of Rancho Viejo.
Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Janice Alwes; four sons, Sandy Broughman of Lexington, Derek Alwes of Granville, Ohio, David Alwes of Sheperdsville and Kenny Alwes of Brentwood, TN; three daughters, Karla Alwes of Locke, NY, Susan Brougham-Lewis of Louisville, and Jill Keller of Owensboro; 13 grandchildren; and three brothers, Eugene Alwes and Chester Alwes of Louisville and Norman Alwes of Shelbyville.
A memorial service will be 12:30 p.m., CST, Saturday at Glenn Funeral Home, where friends may call after 10 a.m. CST Saturday.
