Joan Kathryn Adams, 81, of Owensboro died Tuesday, Oct. 16, 2012, at Hermitage Care and Rehabilitation Center. She was born Jan. 18, 1931, in Carroll, Iowa, to the late Raymond J. Fritz and Leona B. Shaw Fritz, and grew up in Gray, Iowa, as an only child. In the late 1940s, she and her parents moved to Huntington Park, Calif. In 1950, she married in South Gate, Calif., and brought up four sons in Norwalk, Calif. Mrs. Adams moved with her family to Owensboro in 1966. She was a loving and dedicated homemaker, a bookkeeper and a member of Blessed Mother Catholic Church and its choir. She loved to sing and dance. Her family was the focus of her life.
Survivors include her husband of 62 years, Ernest C. Adams of Owensboro; and sons Gary A. Adams (Paul Morsey) and Randy D. Adams (Judy) of Owensboro, Leon D. Adams (Lisa) of Houston and Ernest R. Adams (Dana) of Jeffersontown. Also surviving are grandchildren Stephanie Rhye (Chad), Eric Hayden (Meredith), Jessica Rae Adams, Chacey "Kat" Adams, Connor Adams, Ashley Kate Adams, Wesley Chace Adams and, Audrey Belle Adams; two great-grandchildren; and many in-laws, nephews, nieces and cousins.
The family thanks the staff members of the Hermitage for their caring attention to Joan in the last five months of her life.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Blessed Mother Catholic Church with Rev. John Meredith officiating. Burial will follow in Resurrection Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday with prayers at 6 p.m. and after 8:30 a.m. Saturday at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory.
